Dental Bonding
What is Dental Bonding?
If your child has large gaps and spaces between their teeth, they might benefit from dental bonding. The bonding will essentially help to close these gaps, providing a fuller and healthier-looking smile. Likewise, bonding is ideal for kids who have chipped, broken or cracked a tooth. The material is placed over the damaged area and replaces the missing piece of tooth.
Why is Dental Bonding needed?
Bonding can help to improve the way that your child’s teeth look. Dental bonding is often done using a material known as composite resin, which is matched perfectly to your child’s smile. Bonding can fill in gaps and spaces as well as repair teeth that have chipped or slightly broken. Most bonding can last for about a decade before replacement is necessary.
What makes your child a candidate for Dental Bonding?
Bonding is noninvasive and often requires little to no anesthetic. It offers both cosmetic as well as restorative benefits to your child. Our doctors can examine your child’s smile to determine if they’d benefit from bonding. Older bonding can be replaced as needed in the office just as easily as initial placement.
What can be expected during the Dental Bonding procedure?
We will begin by applying a bonding gel to your child’s teeth. This gel is washed away and a composite resin is matched to their smile. The material is then placed over the tooth and smoothed into place. We carefully detail the composite resin so that it looks as natural as possible. The material is then cured with a special light and any rough edges will be smoothed. The process is repeated on any other damaged teeth or areas that have spaces and gaps. Your child can and should brush their teeth and floss normally even with the bonding in place. They can expect to have the bonding for about 10 or more years without needing retreatment.
