Dentures & Partials
What are Dentures & Partials?
A complete denture along with a partial are prosthetic dental devices that are used to replace any missing teeth in the mouth. While many people think of dentures and partials for older patients, they can be beneficial for children as well. Kids who are missing most or all of their teeth and are having trouble eating and chewing will benefit from a custom-made denture. The denture is meant to last for up to seven years while providing your child with better functionality.
Why are Dentures & Partials needed?
There are several reasons for why your child might need a denture or partial. When your child is missing all or most of their teeth, it might be downright difficult or even impossible for them to eat properly. They might have issues with talking, and wearing a denture can help to eliminate these problems. Furthermore, your child will feel more confident about themselves because of their new denture.
Who is a candidate for Dentures & Partials?
To determine if your child might need a denture or partial, we will examine their teeth and mouth. This can help in determining if they will need this type of appliance and if it is beneficial for their oral health. Likewise, we can replace older dentures and partials so that your child has a new, stable appliance. Most children who need a denture or partial can safely have one made for them.
What happens during the procedure to make Dentures & Partials?
To begin, we will take impressions of your child’s mouth and use these molds to make the actual appliance. Your child will then come in for a second appointment to have the denture fitted. Once fitted, your child will need to care for their new appliance, which involves removing it nightly to give it a good clean. With the right care and storage, your child’s denture or partial will last for many years. Once they’ve outgrown the denture or it shows signs of wear, it will need to be replaced.
